Love Your Face

Your face is your public façade. It reflects your genetics and your life choices, both good and bad. Combine this with the social pressures to look your best, and it quickly becomes apparent that one’s facial appearance can have a deep psychological impact on self-confidence.

Do you have a facial feature that you wish to enhance? Would you like to recapture a more youthful, vibrant appearance? Perhaps you simply want to look your best and need some guidance on how to maintain healthy, well-toned skin. It’s undeniable that life takes its toll on us… and our faces tend to show it.

Golden Age of Aesthetic Medicine

Though getting older is inevitable, looking older is a choice. Today there are myriad effective treatments available – from skin care products, neuromodulators and 3-dimensional facial volumizers, to lasers and other energy devices that lift, tighten, smooth and create more beautiful skin. Finally, in the right hands, modern surgical techniques can consistently create a natural appearance; however, you really need an expert to inform and guide your decisions.

The Goal: A Natural Appearance

The challenge, however, is that we are all hardwired with a refined sense of facial aesthetics — meaning we can immediately tell when something is amiss in someone’s face, if something looks “off,” or if someone looks like they’ve “had work done.” Our astute ability to recognize both attractiveness and abnormalities is what makes facial cosmetic procedures so demanding. Good results should go unnoticed, while bad results can be impossible to disguise.

With all of the new treatments available, however, patients are often confused. Who should I see? What should I do? What can I afford? These are real issues that must be considered. Dr. Yellin would like to share some wisdom that he has acquired during more than 25 years in practice. Find a facial plastic surgeon with experience, who listens to your concerns, whose aesthetic you share and whose judgment you trust. Don’t spend more than you can afford but don’t choose your doctor solely on price. Though price is not an exact indicator of quality, there is truth to the statement, “you get what you pay for.”

Aesthetic procedures are just that, aesthetic. If you don’t look naturally more beautiful after treatment, the procedure(s) have not served you well. Understand that it is absolutely necessary that your treating physician is knowledgeable and skilled but just as important, they must also have an artist’s eye for detail, proportion and symmetry. You can achieve technical success (a result which is appropriate for the treatment without complications) but artistic failure (you simply don’t look better or even worse, you look disproportionate or even weird). Your face is your public persona. There is no place to hide. Remember that excellent facial aesthetic work goes unnoticed. Seek out expert care. Your face is worth it.

When performing surgical or non-surgical facial rejuvenation or cosmetic rhinoplasty, the ultimate goal should be to create a natural, beautiful appearance. Achieving this goal consistently requires artistic vision, surgical talent, meticulous attention to detail and years of experience. The bottom line: Be very discriminating about who you trust with your face.

Benefits Beyond The Mirror

While facial plastic surgery can improve an individual’s appearance, the real power lies in its ability to enhance one’s self-confidence and sense of wellbeing. We hear it time and time again from our patients following a procedure: They not only look amazing, but they feel happier and more confident. That’s powerful! When the reflection in the mirror is finally in harmony with how you perceive yourself, beautiful things happen.

The Next Step: Your Consultation

If you decide to move forward with your aesthetic journey, you will need to schedule a consultation with Dr. Yellin. During your consultation, Dr. Yellin will review your medical history. It is important to openly and honestly discuss all of your medical conditions during your consultation. Your overall health and safety are our primary concerns. He will then ask you to share your facial concerns and get to know you. Next, Dr. Yellin will perform a detailed aesthetic exam and explain his findings.

Dr. Yellin will outline your treatment plan and discuss it in detail. He will thoroughly answer any questions you have and lastly, his aesthetics coordinator will give you a written summary of your individualized treatment plan, including all related costs.

Preparing For Your Procedure

Any underlying chronic medical conditions, such as anemia, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, diabetes or depression, do not exclude cosmetic surgery; however, such conditions must be well controlled to optimize your healing. Likewise, if you are taking a blood thinner such as Coumadin, Plavix or Aspirin, please inform Dr. Yellin so he can best determine how to manage these medications during the peri-operative period. During your consultation, Dr. Yellin will determine whether you’re a good candidate for elective facial surgery and will help you set realistic surgical expectations. Cigarette smokers are encouraged to reduce or quit smoking prior to surgery. Smokers have a greater chance of having problems healing, regardless of the surgical procedure performed.

If you are 65 or older, based on your medical history, you may be required to undergo a thorough physical examination and be medically cleared prior to any surgical procedure performed in the operating room under general anesthesia.
