A chin implant procedure, also known as a genioplasty, is most commonly used to correct inadequate chin projection as seen in profile, creating improved facial balance. Also, by improving the forward projection of the chin, it enhances the distance between the chin and the neck thus improving the contour in this area. We also have the option of inserting implants that add lateral width for a stronger jaw, a popular procedure among men.
Chin implants can be fashioned from several different materials and come in various sizes and shapes. Dr. Yellin will determine the optimum implant for you guided by your facial aesthetic desires during your consultation. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. An incision is made under the chin and the proper implant is placed and secured. The incision is then closed completing the procedure. The chin implant procedure may be performed in conjunction with a facelift, a neck lift, or a rhinoplasty.
