While scars can’t be completely removed, it is possible to modify and improve them. Thickened and unsightly facial scars can often be excised and the scar redirected to fall within the natural lines of the face, or made to appear more irregular thus making the scar less noticeable to the observer.
Once the scar is removed, the surrounding skin is undermined which reduces tension on the skin closure. The wound is then repaired with tiny sutures, leaving a thinner, less visible scar that can be made even more indistinguishable with dermabrasion or laser resurfacing and kenolog and 5-FU injections when indicated.
