It’s time once again to celebrate our practice and the people we serve! I hope to see you all this Saturday, October 3rd, at our 16th annual Fall Beauty Event. As always, we’ll have light bites and libations, product discounts, savings on skincare products and services and the best specials I’ve ever offered for treatments such as Botox and my exclusive Injecta-Lift™ procedure. We are also doing something new this year that I’m confident will be informative. I will be interviewing three of my patients and you will have a chance to speak with them and ask them questions individually after our session. The three patients represent examples of surgical procedures that are at the heart of my facial rejuvenation approach and philosophy, including deep plane face lifting, eyelid rejuvenation, 3-D facial reshaping using deeply placed HA fillers (Injecta-Lift™), direct neck lifting and CO2 laser skin resurfacing. We will be discussing the consultation, pre-operative preparation, the surgical experience, after care and what choosing to do these procedures has meant to them. If this all sounds fun and interesting, please join us this Saturday, from 9:00 am to noon at our office. At the end of the morning we will have a raffle drawing for many free products and services generously donated by our vendors, and staff who will be on hand to educate you and answer any questions you may have regarding their products or services, with a grand prize of an Injecta-Lift procedure valued up to $10,000!
I spent most of last week in Las Vegas at the American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) Academy fall meeting. As always, it was a time to reconnect with colleagues and explore new ideas. Hearing about the latest trends and techniques in face lifting is always a great learning experience, and as usual, I’ve come away with even more conviction that I will continue creating a beautiful, natural appearance that enhances without telegraphing that “work was done.”
GLP-1 medications for weight loss was a hot topic at the conference. We already know that these contribute significantly to accelerated facial aging due to dramatic de-volumization, but some surgeons have been noticing that these weight loss medications can inhibit soft tissue healing. There are no definitive studies that inform us about how long one should withhold the medication prior to and after surgery, but two to three weeks before and after surgery seems to be the consensus at this time. It is also well-known that these medications can slow gastric emptying, and it is an absolute requirement to be off these medications prior to general anesthesia to minimize the risk of aspiration.
Lastly, I want to welcome Shermeen Merani to our aesthetics team. She is a highly skilled, knowledgeable and experienced medical aesthetician and licensed laser practitioner with more than 10 years of clinical experience in a dermatology and plastic surgery environment. In addition to her clinical skills, her professional confidence and lovely personality are a wonderful addition to our practice.
