What’s in a New Year?

Unbelievable! It is 2017. The number 17 has had special meaning for my family. Not only is it the most random of numbers, as my son, a math major college student has informed me, but 5 of my immediate family members, including myself, were born on the 17th. Having said that, I have thought about the year 2017 since I was a kid: figuring out how old I would be and then later, how old my children would be. Needless to say, I am now old and my sons are both men. How did this happen? Just by “stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive.” When faced with some apparently insurmountable adversity, my father would always remind me to just keep living and that with time, any problem can be solved. Well, here we are in 2017. Now the problem, as I alluded to earlier, is one that I share with many of my patients. We are looking older. Now I am all for getting older, I just don’t want to look “older.” Let’s face it, we live in a youth-driven culture. Many of us work out, eat well, and make good life choices in general. But, no matter what, our faces start to show our age. For many that’s just fine, but for me, I want to look youthful, healthy and vibrant…not my natural 55. So, I use many of our skin care products twice a day to build collagen, maintain healthy skin turnover, and improve the health and vibrancy of my skin with topical vitamins, peptides and anti-oxidants. I use sun screen every single day of the year to reduce the damaging effects of ultraviolet light on my skin. Since age 41, I have treated myself with Botox to reduce the lines between my eyebrows. At age 45, I started to treat my forehead, and most recently, my crows’ feet. At 51, I had Ultherapy to tighten my jawline and neck which worked well for me. However, most importantly, I have added Voluma to my cheeks to replace the normal loss of fat that occurs with aging to properly proportion my face and create a natural, more youthful facial shape. No surgery yet, though I have performed facelifts and eyelid rejuvenation surgery on both of my parents some 20 years ago so I know where I am headed. The good news is that if looking older is getting you down and you want to make a change, 2017 is the best year yet to make that change. Technology, topical products, and my talent for creating a natural look have never been better. Schedule some time to sit down with me and let’s talk. I know just how you are feeling.
