From the Corner Office

Thanks to all of our loyal and happy patients, we have once again been recognized for our outstanding care. I am proud to announce that Marietta Facial Plastic Surgery, Laser & Aesthetics Center is the winner of “Best Plastic Surgery Practice-Face”, by My West Cobb Magazine, Best of 2024! This recognition is particularly rewarding as it reflects both our outstanding teamwork and aesthetic results. We are grateful to all of you who voted and showed your support for our practice. Thank you!

June has just wrapped and it was super busy. I want to thank my medical assistants, Desiree and Melissa for stepping up and keeping things running smoothly despite our being short an assistant. After interviewing many qualified candidates, we just hired our newest team member. She will start in the middle of July and I will be introducing her formally once she officially joins us.

Also, many on our team were amongst the guests who recently celebrated Bharti Jetwani, our front office lead, at her wedding shower (see photo below of Desiree and Bharti at her shower). Bharti will be tying the knot in September and we wish the newlyweds many years of happiness together.

Additionally, we recently introduced a new feature in our newsletter. You can now hear directly from our aestheticians to learn more about the many services, technologies, and skincare products we offer to keep your skin and hair looking healthy and beautiful, your underarms and legs hair-free, and your body CoolSculpted. When you are having a treatment with one of our aestheticians, please share with them any treatments or products you are interested in hearing more about and they will discuss them in upcoming newsletters.

Lastly, I want to talk about two facial areas that when properly sculpted with deeply placed, injectable hyaluronic (HA) fillers, can have a dramatic and long-lasting impact on appearance but are infrequently recognized as areas of opportunity by my patients until I point them out. I am speaking about temple hollowness and chin weakness.

The temple area often de-volumizes due to reduction of the temporal fat pad creating a sunken in, almost skeletal appearance. These changes are often seen in people with low bodyfat, such as athletes, especially runners. Lost temple volume is also encountered as a consequence of normal aging, which is frequently first visible in the mid to late 50’s. A reduction of temporal support is a common cause of lateral brow droop and flattening of the brow arch, both of which can contribute to lateral upper eyelid hooding, which creates a smaller looking eye. It can also lead to an overly skeletonized temporal fossa and cheekbones which make us look gaunt, not beautiful, healthy, and youthful. This can be safely and comfortably treated by injecting Voluma deeply on the bone, which creates a natural lifted appearance of this area, re-establishing the proper contour to the temple area and creating a subtle yet powerful rejuvenation effect.

A lack of chin projection can be both genetic and/or caused by resorption of mandibular bone as we age. Since we rarely see our own profile, this is often overlooked. Chin weakness can result in early neck sagging for younger patients or an exacerbation of neck sagging in older individuals. For many people with a weak chin, providing improved chin projection enhances the jawline and the neck contours, making women more beautiful and men more handsome. This can be done quickly and safely using the HA fillers Volux and Lyft. These provide an improved chin contour that often lasts for years. Another more permanent solution would be a chin implant, which when indicated, can easily be done in the office using only oral Xanax and local lidocaine anesthesia. Finally, it is common for me to reshape the entire jawline with either Volux or Lyft to camouflage the jowls and improve the jaw angles, both of which can make the face look younger and more attractive. The only caveat is that for women, proper midface reshaping and re-volumization should be done first to maintain a beautiful, feminine appearance. For men with a weak chin, this is less of a concern as a strong jaw is naturally perceived as an attractive masculine feature.

From the Aesthetic Team

For those of you I haven’t met, allow me to introduce myself. I’ve been a medical aesthetician for eight years. I’ve been with MFP for the last two years, but previously worked for a medical spa in Atlanta as an aesthetician, laser practitioner and laser trainer. I also spent a few years working for a medical grade skincare line as the Atlanta Account Development Manager and trainer. Your skin is your largest organ and I believe that healthy, well cared for skin looks beautiful at every age. I’m passionate about developing relationships with my patients and giving them the confidence they deserve. Skincare can be overwhelming, so I am here to create a simple plan for your unique needs. Today I’d like to tell you about one of my favorite summertime treatments…

Can laser treatments be done in the summer?

We get this question all the time. Many of our laser treatments are not recommended if you plan to be exposed to the sun or already have a tan. However, MOXI is both safe and effective during the summer months. How? This non-ablative laser uses a 1927nm wavelength that targets water within cells, making it safe for all skin types, year-round.

What are the benefits of MOXI?

MOXI will help correct the visible signs of sun damage and aging. It creates micro-coagulation zones, inducing the body’s natural wound-healing process. This promotes collagen production in the treatment area and reduces rough or uneven texture areas. MOXI is also one of our favorite treatments to safely treat melasma. It can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands, arms, and legs.

What can you expect with a MOXI treatment?

MOXI is considered a “lunchtime procedure.” After applying a topical numbing cream, this treatment typically only takes between 8 to 10 minutes to perform. After MOXI, you can expect little downtime and makeup can be applied 24 hours post-procedure. It is important to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen while healing. Although improvement is generally seen in just one treatment, we suggest four treatments for best results.

We look forward to lightening, brightening, and refreshing your skin this summer with MOXI!

From the West Cobb Office

One of my patients this month told me at her follow-up appointment that she attended a family reunion and was given many compliments on how great she looks. I loved hearing this! Seeing her smile from ear to ear while telling me this story is one of the many perks of my job. I really do try to make all of my patients look and feel their best. It is important to me that my patients feel like I am addressing their concerns while also providing a plan to achieve their goals. This is why an initial consult is so important. It gives us time to sit down and discuss all of the available options.

That being said, if you have an event coming up, please make sure you are giving yourself enough time to heal from injectable procedures. Botox can take a full two weeks to kick in and fillers often will leave you puffy and sometimes a bit bruised. Giving yourself time to heal will make the whole procedure less stressful for you!

Happy Fourth of July!
