I am certain that we will all remember this summer season as a time of both personal and national challenge and introspection. Truly, a summer like no other. As a medical practice and local small business, I feel a particular responsibility to our community during these trying times. It goes without saying that we are dedicated to helping our patients maintain a sense of wellbeing during this particularly stressful time but it is also gratifying to be able to employ so many wonderful people. Thanks to the support of the community that we serve, our practice has been able to hire several new teammates to better serve the Marietta and West Cobb communities. If you have been coming to our practice for a time, you may notice some new faces both at the front desk and assisting me as well as Kelly Houmand, PA-C and Jennifer Liechty, NP-C. As all of you are aware, many people have lost jobs recently due to the economic impact from mitigating Covid-19. But thanks to your continuing patronage, we are able to hire excellent new staff members even during difficult economic times. For that I want to say thank you!
We have been fully operational and clinically busy for a month now, though we are seeing fewer patients per day to avoid patient overlap. I have been operating both in my office and at Marietta Surgical Center, when patients require general anesthesia. Our aesthetic staff is back full-time and offering services at both of our locations. All of the new safety protocols are becoming second-nature and we are continually re-examining best practices to keep us all safe. So far, things appear to be going well. To the best of my knowledge, no one in either our practice or my partners’ practice at Marietta Dermatology have had any incidence of COVID-19. However, we are in a time of renewed awareness of the challenges this pandemic has thrown at us, with infection rates climbing (no it is not just because we are testing more), silent carriers unknowingly infecting others, varied and unpredictable clinical outcomes from infection, recognition of various high-risk groups, and the fact that the virus is mutating to become more infectious yet no less deadly for some. All of this makes this time uniquely challenging. I have been reading daily about new clinical therapeutic trials and vaccine development and I remain optimistic that we will be able to manage this disease effectively in the near future. However, for now, public health measures such as wearing a mask whenever you are out in public, maintaining a safe distance from others, and frequent hand washing remain our best protection, for ourselves and others we come in contact with.
For many of the patients I have been treating recently their appears to be a recurring theme of wanting to use this time of social isolation to do a little self-improvement without the pressures of ‘”being seen” because they are staying home and avoiding going out or they are out and about but wearing a mask. Either way, this is a unique opportunity to just “get it done.” Facelifts, rhinoplasty, blepharoplasty, laser resurfacing or Profound RF all seem to be popular, while Injecta-Lift (using injectable fillers to reshape, balance and enhance facial appearance non-surgically) remains the most requested procedure. This certainly makes sense. The results are long-lasting and the procedure allows you to return to normal activities immediately. Of course, you will not look perfect for about a week or so as the swelling and bruising resolve, but you won’t miss a beat, there is no real healing required and you can even work out the next day and maintain your regular skincare regime. Also, no matter what else you choose to do to enhance your appearance, an artistically performed Injecta-Lift procedure will leave you looking naturally more beautiful. It enhances everything else that I do to make faces look their most attractive.
In closing, I want to stress that first and foremost, we are a healthcare practice and our promise to you is to keep you safe while helping you look and feel your best!
