A message from Dr. Yellin.
Big news! Profound RF will be arriving within the next few weeks. This is great news for all of us (and I really mean “us” since I am a good candidate for this technology as well). During my 23 years as a facial plastic surgeon, there have been very few technologies I have been as excited to introduce into my practice. Profound RF is a multi-bipolar, long-pulse, radio-frequency, micro-needling device that has the unique capability of measuring skin impedance between needle pairs and adjusting the current instantaneously, to deliver the exact amount of energy selected to produce a safe treatment that reliably smooths and tightens skin.
So, what’s the big deal? First of all, it is the first FDA approved device that may be promoted for elastin production. This is HUGE. Elastin is the spring in our skin. It accounts for our skins’ snappiness. For years, I have told my patients that we have a wonderful treatment for facial lines and wrinkles with CO2 laser skin resurfacing, however, it does not make skin more elastic. CO2 laser skin resurfacing ablates the outer skin layers, generates heat and promotes collagen production, thickening, smoothing and tightening the treated areas. It remains the ‘gold standard” for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. However, it requires quite a bit of care initially and then prolonged redness before the final results are achieved. Also, CO2 laser can only be used on the face, while Profound RF can be used anywhere there is skin except theeyelids.
Profound RF will improve texture, though not as effectively as CO2 laser, but it will tighten saggy skin in the lower face, jowls and neck and make skin more elastic, which a CO2 laser cannot accomplish. However, one area where it will shine is as a reliable treatment to soften and improve lines and wrinkles around the mouth (vertical lip line). This is a very challenging area to treat and unlike CO2 laser which can lighten skin permanently, Profound RF will not change the color of the skin. Also, it can tighten skin in other areas of the body and is particularly effective at improving the décolleté, lower abdomen, “banana roll” where the leg meets the buttocks and the skin above the knees which commonly sags with aging. It will also complement our CoolSculpting body contouring results by tightening the loose skin that results from fat reduction. Also, Profound RF has an FDA indication for the treatment of cellulite!!
Profound RF is currently offered as a single treatment. The procedure is safely performed using local anesthesia. Often, we will use Xanax 1 mg to make you more relaxed during treatment. Most procedures can be completed in about 1 hour. Post-operative care will include a light layer of Aquaphor ointment for 1 week. Some bruising and swelling should be expected though it should not last more than 1-2 weeks. There is no disruption of the normal skin barrier, therefore no oozing or peeling is expected. Also, there is minimal risk of skin pigment changes such as redness, or long-term hypo- or hyper-pigmentation. Typically, results gradually reveal themselves over a period of 3-9 months after treatment. For most patients, the improvements are expected to last for several years, though individual results may vary. One of the more impressive features of Profound RF is that there is a 100% response rate to treatment, which is unique for non-ablative, non-surgical technologies. However, that does not mean that the results will match your expectations so a consultation is critical to determine if Profound RF is right for you. Pricing will range, depending on the area(s) treated, between $3,000 and $6,000. All face and neck treatments will be done by me. Body treatments will be done by my physician assistants.
Introductory price discounts will be available for a limited time. If this sounds interesting to you, I encourage you to schedule a consultation.
