From The Corner Office

Harnessing the body’s own ability to heal and repair through novel bio-engineering technologies has permeated many areas of modern medicine, including facial aesthetic surgery. As I have spoken about in past newsletters, we have incorporated several of these novel techniques. Exosomes and platelet derived plasma (PRP) improve aesthetic outcomes for procedures such as laser skin resurfacing, micro-needling, and micro-needle delivery of radiofrequency energy (Profound and SylfirmX) and also as a treatment for androgenic hair loss. In keeping with these exciting advances, I will be introducing platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) as the most biologically compelling treatment to date to use the power of our body’s own biology to enhance appearance naturally. As a means of introducing this new technology, I thought I would start by describing in some detail the technology and then in future newsletters, describe how I will be using it.

Platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) are both innovative techniques in aesthetic medicine that utilize the body’s natural healing processes to enhance skin rejuvenation and promote tissue regeneration. While PRP has been widely used in aesthetic procedures for some time, PRF offers several distinct advantages, making it a superior choice in many cases.

Firstly, PRF is derived from the patient’s own blood, similar to PRP, but it contains a higher concentration of platelets, leukocytes, and growth factors. This higher concentration of bioactive substances facilitates faster tissue regeneration and promotes more efficient wound healing. Additionally, PRF has a fibrin matrix that acts as a scaffold, providing structural support and enhancing the longevity of treatments’ effects.

Moreover, PRF has a slower release of growth factors compared to PRP, resulting in a more sustained therapeutic effect over time. This prolonged release of growth factors allows for continuous stimulation of collagen production and tissue regeneration, leading to longer-lasting aesthetic improvements.

Another advantage of PRF is its simplicity of preparation. Unlike PRP, PRF can be prepared using a simple, low-speed centrifugation process without the need for anticoagulants or additives. This streamlined preparation method reduces the risk of contamination and ensures the purity and potency of the PRF preparation. Furthermore, PRF is biocompatible and bioresorbable, meaning it is readily accepted by the body and gradually broken down over time. These characteristics minimize the risk of adverse reactions or complications and promote natural-looking results.

In aesthetic medicine, PRF can be used for a wide range of applications, including facial rejuvenation, scar revision, hair restoration, and wound healing. Its versatility and effectiveness make it a valuable tool for addressing various aesthetic concerns and achieving personalized treatment outcomes. As the field of aesthetic medicine continues to evolve, PRF is poised to play a central role in enhancing patient outcomes and satisfaction.

From the West Cobb Office

I hope everyone is having a lovely start to the summer now that the kiddos are out of school! I wanted to take this opportunity to discuss trends in the cosmetic industry and how they impact outcomes.

Part of my job in aesthetics is staying on top of trends and educating myself on the industry’s happenings. I’ve never been one to jump onto trends, whether it is for fashion or my patients’ faces. My focus is always on cosmetic outcomes. During a consultation with my patients, I am very open and honest about why I am recommending a certain procedure and why I am not recommending others. So, if you see something new on social media and you are convinced you must have it, my advice is to be open to hearing why or why not the procedure would be appropriate for you. Sit down for a consultation with me to learn more.

Try out all the fashion trends you want, but as your injector, I want to make sure that you have consistent, natural-looking results.

And for heaven’s sake, don’t try to contour with sunscreen this summer. Trust me, your skin will thank you later.

Happy summer!
